Alaska Ski For Women Grants

Grant Details

Over the past several years, the Alaska Ski for Women has donated over $1,200,000 to the local community, non-profit organizations helping to stop the cycle of domestic abuse against women and children in Alaska. This strong, financial support is made possible by Alaska Ski for Women donors, participants, merchandise, and silent auction sales.

What is Alaska Ski for Women (ASFW)? ASFW is a program of the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage AND North America’s largest women-only cross-country ski event. Each year on the first Sunday in February women of all ages and abilities come out to ski approximately 2.4 miles (4K), many in colorful costumes while raising funds for local non-profit organizations that help stop the cycle of domestic abuse against women and children.

What is the Alaska Ski for Women Grant Program? Through the generous donations of ASFW participants, and the hard work of our all-volunteer committee, the race is able to make an impact in the community by contributing to groups that actively work to improve women’s lives. A special focus is ending the cycle of violence against women and their families, supporting their recovery after crisis, and helping women in crisis find positive solutions to a healthier life. In addition, proceeds from the event support the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage, with 20% of net proceeds going to NSAA.

The Alaska Ski for Women grant committee has decided, after much discussion, to award 100% of the net proceeds from the 2020 Alaska Ski for Women event to AWAIC. In times of COVID-19, NSAA and ASFW want to show our support for what AWAIC is doing for the community. Together, we can stop the cycle of domestic violence and help women in crisis find positive solutions to a healthier life. The Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage is proud of the success of the Alaska Ski for Women (ASFW) event and the great work of AWAIC and has awarded them $25,747 as of June 2020.
